LA-BRI'UT:
TO OUR HEALTH AND WELLNESS

A curriculum for kindergarten
through sixth grade

The Jewish Education Center of Cleveland is pleased to offer an exciting, new values-based curriculum designed for learners in kindergarten through sixth grade. Via five values-focused modules, learners gain a variety of tools that build resiliency and supportive strategies for better managing the challenges that life can throw their way, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

The learning approach is a hybrid of synchronous learning in a weekly cohort-based mifgash (“gathering”). At home, children delve into module-related content and concepts with a fair amount of independence from the adults in their lives. Lower elementary age children explore them through a curated box of hands-on activities, while upper elementary learners receive engaging weekly challenges.

Learning is anchored in Jewish texts and tales of our past, offering rich understandings of Jewish values that build resiliency and guide personal and communal health and wellness:
  • sukkat shalom (a shelter of peace)
  • ometz lev (inner strength)
  • g’vurah (courage)
  • k’hillah (community)
  • hesed (loving kindness, tying into hope)
While developed with minimal at-home adult responsibility for learning, resources are offered to encourage informal  family conversations.
There is a lot to explore on this site!
  • The Teachers' tab contains the full curricular documents and resources with special help.
  • The Learners' tab offers copies of documents that the children and parents need to quickly access
  • The Prof'l Dev Resources tab incorporates items that used to be under the Directors' tab. The LANDING PAGE offers updates on PD opportunities. Under that are tabs titled: CURRICULUM CONTENT (full documents, i.e., not split by week, the shopping lists for the lower elementary activity boxes, and icons plus templates that may be used when personalizing materials), VIDEOS FOR PD (including recordings of webinars and short helpful videos for teachers and directors), and TECH TUTORIALS (assistance with Zoom, Flipgrid and Kahoot).

With thanks to the generous support of The Jewish Education Center of Cleveland and The Covenant Foundation, all is available for free download.

2021 - Evaluating, Reflecting and Moving Forward!

As we end the 2021 school year, the JEC offers its deep appreciation for all who jumped in to La-bri'ut during the year-of-the-pandemic. Not until stories started emerging on the La-bri'ut Facebook group this fall, did we begin to understand the full power of the curriculum in its blending of caregiving principles for those who face trauma and our at-the-heart Jewish values. This project exemplified national collaboration, with educators easily and freely sharing their experiences and resources with each other via the Facebook group. Our children and their families benefitted from this unique approach to Jewish learning, with thanks to all of you!
We are delighted to share with you a link to Rosov Consulting's, "Addressing Present Challenges, Inspiring Future Possibilities: An Evaluation of "La-bri'ut: To Our Health and Wellness." We encourage all who read it to do so with an eye to what you will take into the future on behalf of your learners and their families.
For "What's Next" from the JEC, check the tab under "Prof'l Dev Resources" and join us for the next adventure!
