WHAT'S NEXT?
SCROLL DOWN for the May 10 webinar recording and supporting documents.
For many Jewish educators, as well as parents, the Covid-19 pandemic challenged long-held assumptions about the structure, content and learning processes at the foundation of synagogue/part-time education programs. Yet, not surprisingly, past practices threaten to snap the enterprise back to its pre-pandemic ways. It's quite clear that Jewish leaders are facing an "If not now, when?" moment - will we step up, or "blink" and revert to learning approaches that have been in place for decades?
With the goal of helping Jewish learning and engagement move forward in part-time/synagogue settings, the JEC gathered an incredible team of Jewish educators to address the "what's next" conundrum. Since January 2021, this team has been been tackling four tasks:

With the goal of helping Jewish learning and engagement move forward in part-time/synagogue settings, the JEC gathered an incredible team of Jewish educators to address the "what's next" conundrum. Since January 2021, this team has been been tackling four tasks:
- Challenging key assumptions about learning, including shifting the role of TEACHers to adults who serve as learning guides. This means that children have the opportunity to become empowered and engaged as learners.
- Formulating a conceptual foundation called “Gifting – A Framework for Learning and Engagement." It can be adopted, adapted, or used as a jumping off point.
- Developing “The 3 + 3 Project,” a pilot curriculum that blends the changing teacher/learner roles with the Gifting framework.
- Creating a variety of professional development resources and supports for directors to use with their faculty and stakeholders
A couple of other notes:
- The "If Not Now, When?" booklet is designed to be read individually - there is way too much small print on a page for use in a whole group presentation. Its second to the last page offers suggestions for making it accessible to stakeholders, whether digitally or in print.
- The JEC team is still working on curriculum for "The 3 + 3 Project," as well as professional development supports. Release for both is targeted for July 2021. Information will be shared as appropriate in the next few months, but we ask for your patience.
- New/updated documents will be posted to this page and conversation is welcome in the "JEC - To Our Health and Wellness" Facebook group. Eventually, a FB group and dedicated webpage will be developed for the new project.
Thanks for your curiousity and hopefully interest! Indeed, if not now, when?
FOLLOW-UP TO THE MAY 10 WEBINAR
On May 10th, Nachama Skolnik Moskowitz and Rabbi Stacy Schlein introduced the Gifting Framework to a very thoughtful group of colleagues. It is our pleasure to share with you the recording and supporting documents. We hope to be able to offer a pre-Shavuot gift of the still-drafty-but-looking-okay introduction to "The 3+3 Project" curriculum. Stay tuned!
PS – the Gifting Framework serves as the foundation of “The 3+3 Project."

A PEEK INTO THE CURRICULUM
Note that this is a DRAFT. It includes the currrent introductory pages as well as ONE page of the curriculum so you can see the formatting. There is too much editing going on to share more than that, sorry! But the introduction will give you a clue to our thinking about the learning content and process.
The JEC team is also working to offer you professional development supports.
Everything should be read to go by the early part of July.
